This is a particularly effective use of shading to gain a truly 3D look in Vincent's Still LIfe.

He really understood the principles of light travelling in straight lines and causing shadows on rounded objects. If you look in the top left hand corner you can see he even drew in the source of light.

Vincent tackles everything with great care and precision. Here we see a very accurate drawing of a tanker in action on the Parkside Services farm he knows so well.

As we cannot easily bring live dogs into the art studio we used realistic soft toys instead as a starting point. Here Vincent has caught the lively character and shape of the dog really well.
